Chicago Sleeps Off Stanley Cup Celebration

Sporting events have been known to take a hit on companies. Some employers dread the Super Bowl, March Madness, and the World Cup. From gambling, to bandwidth issues, to increased absences, sporting events can be a serious disruption to businesses. The latest to learn this lesson—Chicago.

According to CBS Chicago, the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup victory may be a win for the team, the city, and sporting supply stores, but for the rest of Chicago’s business owners, bringing home the Cup left many employers in a pickle.

Sports fans celebrated the team’s win after the game—some into the early hours of the morning—which left many employers short-staffed in the morning and others with an exhausted workforce.

In an interview with John Challenger, the CEO Challenger, Gray & Christmas, he made the following prediction: “In Chicago, 25 percent of the workforce is coming in late.”
